At the INTERMOT bike show in Germany Kawasaki showed their new Z800 "street fighter." To me it looks like it's already been crashed by some helmetless, baggy pants wearing dillweed in a YouTube video. Odd angled panels going in every direction look like so much broken ABS plastic.
This trend to make bikes uglier and uglier each year can be seen in the more polished but still butt ugly 2013 BMW R1200GS.
Really, how do trained designers come up with this stuff? The GS looks like a farm implement - a 2 wheeled hay bailer - more than a motorcycle.

Wow, they kind of missed the mark of the Kawi didn't they?
Reminds me of a Persian cat with it's nose smooshed in.
Not quite as pretty as the current 750 but they all look like variants of the Benelli TNT which was styled like this several years ago. It's just like the car industry which all seem to slavishly copy each other. I used to like the individualistic styling of Subaru models a few years ago but even those look like everything else now.
Doug, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks all those angular panels are ugly.
Usually I have to keeps those thoughts to myself since many of the guys I ride with have those ugly things.

Doug:
I guess I must be the minority. I like new design. Compact, lighter and more efficient.
Any way Go, Old Brush Barons.

I think the only thing I like is the green on it. I love green it's my favorite color. The panels almost look cheap like they could fall off at any time. I bet it is hard to keep your mouth shut when your riding with them, I know I would have said something already. Of course I'd probably be riding with myself after that
Agreed.
And what's with the "beak" on the GS?
Ugh.
Lemme see the engine. Lemme see the drivetrain. Put enough plastic on the thing to protect me from the weather, and make it look like it will cut the air, rather than rend it asunder.
This is a phase, I hope, that we'll pass through quickly.
Thanks for the comments, guys. As with JB I have friends who ride the GS and love it. I'd probably love the way it rides too as by all accounts it's wonderful at what it does. I suppose this current trend of making things look like broken plastic and bird beaks will in time fade away just as square headlamps and faux gold trim did in the past.
Honestly, I like Kawis regardless of the spikey shapes. In fact I think I love them BECAUSE of that :)
