After you get back from the cruise you're still gonna get the new motorcycle right?

Hi Doug. Yes, a voice from your past (about 20 years ago). Since you never got the hang of remaining single, I'll offer a suggestion on how to go on the cruise and still afford a motorcycle --- Buy a KLR.

Yes, I know what you think of KLRs.

As much as I hate to admit it, maybe it's for the best...take care of the cruise and the rest will fall into place (pat on the back)...You are still the 40 on 2. Hopefully we will be seeing the 50 on 2 site soon enough.

Greetings, Jac! I'd heard the the grapevine that you had become a KLR650 aficionado. As it happens I've owned two KLR650s over the years and they are indeed wonderful bikes but buying one a third time seems improbable at this point.

Dave and RC, at the moment I'm poking around looking at used airhead BMWs. Missed a nice clean R90/6 by just a few days. I think I'm going to go retro for a while, first because of budget constraints and second because I have a soft spot for old airheads having owned five of them over the years. Also, if one owns and old airhead you get to make fun of so-called "modern" BMWs with their fancy-schmancy overhead cams, water cooling, fuel injection, and other unnecessary foolishness. ;-)

As soon as I find the right airhead I'll start looking for a proper "pudding bowl" helmet and a waxed cotton Belstaff jacket so I can be even more of a retro-grouch than I usually am.

Doug - For what it's worth, you could easily pick-up an R1150R for $6K or less - I recently saw one on CycleTrader located in Gilbert (close enough to check out, eh?).

The problem with most "classic" airheads in decent shape is that they'll carry a premium because of the melancholy factor. Of course, if you're into that kind of thing, more power to ya! I'd just rather spend my time riding then tinkering ;-)

Cheers,
Lucky
