Need A GPS?

I got a personal note from Lisa over at Edge GPS letting me know they have the Garmin StreetPilot 2610 coming in again next week at the very, very good price of $189. I thought I got a great deal when I bought mine for $275 last year and in fact it's been worth every penny of the $275 I paid for it (retail used to be about $850). The 2610 has been discontinued by Garmin and the ones Edge GPS is offering are refurbs but come with Garmin's full warranty. When I got mine there was no way to tell it was anything but a brand new unit.

Functionally the 2610 lacks some of the latest bells & whistles but in fact has most of the features anyone really needs for general traveling about. I'm tempted to buy another one at the $189 price just so I don't have to move the GPS back and forth from the car to the bike. Get a 2GB memory card for the thing and you can have all the roads in the USA loaded with space left over.

By the way, I'm not connected with Edge GPS in any way either so don't think I'm shilling for them, I'm just passing on a good deal from a company that was easy to deal with. There are still a few out there!

If I didn't already have my Zumo I'd be all over this.

Have you worked with the stored Trackpoints? I like to log my journies, and am wondering if the Trackpoints are stored on internal memory or the flash cards.

atlasrider,

I have not used the stored track logs on the 2610, only my Etrex Vista CSX. To be honest, I had not paid any attention to where the track log are stored, I just plug the units into the computer and play from there with waypoints and maps (which are stored on the CF card).
